Here you can discover the immense rooms and the gours (calcite pools) unique in Europe.
The site of the Saint Marcel d'Ardèche cave also offers you a walk along a discovery trail called "Le chemin de la grosse pierre" (the path of the big stone) where you can discover the fauna and flora of the Ardèche Gorges, a menhir and a dolmen.
This story begins 100 million years ago, from the formation of the limestone rock to the discovery of the Aven d'Orgnac in 1935, which today allows us to admire the gigantic underground chambers. It is also a human story, from the cutting of the flint that was being carved 350,000 years ago, and the transmission that continues at the Cité de la Préhistoire. Come and learn a little, dream a lot, and above all change of era, and this near the Ardèche campsite Les Truffières, open all year round!
Property of the commune of Saint-Remèze
It is one of the main tourist caves in south-eastern France. It is located in the middle of a cliff on the left bank and in the heart of the Gorges de l'Ardèche
In the heart of a natural site classified 3 stars in the Michelin guide and whose beauty has won over the most fervent followers of wild life, the Madeleine cave is one of the most beautiful in France, with grandiose volumes, sets of concretions with astonishing shapes and an unusual range of colours.
Guided and commented visit of one hour. Over a distance of 1 km (round trip), you will discover one of the most beautiful caves in France.
Discover the Aven Marzal, a cave explored in 1892 by E. A. Martel, the first French speleologist of world renown. He said of the cave that it is "grafted onto a vast cave, one of the most admirable we know from the point of view of concretions".
December 18, 1994...
It was a Sunday. Equipped with lamps, Jean-Marie Chauvet, Éliette Brunel and Christian Hillaire decide to enter the narrow passage discovered a few months earlier. The trio crawled metre after metre. The progress is difficult. The three cavers got stuck several times before reaching the ceiling of a large gallery. This winter expedition will change the course of their lives.
The Forest Cave is a cave secured by barriers and a floor that prevents slipping. Only one path, with no way to get lost. Original Crystallizations Give The Sense Of Being Under The Sea While Tree Roots Remind Us That We Are At The Center Of The Earth. This is the only cave in France with such roots and crystals. The Concept Of Visit Remains Unique In Europe.
The cave can be visited safely without a guide and without a reservation, with powerful lamps provided for everyone, while reading the many explanatory panels.
Every day from 9am to 12pm and from 1pm to 6pm
