36km from the campsite,
This large town, very lively during the summer, has retained part of its square enclosure flanked by seven round towers, most of them inhabited. Its church, a former Cluniac priory, with a limestone apse chiseled with black lozenges and red cement, retains Carolingian motifs. It was fortified at the same time as the walled city. The tower surmounting the dome was erected as a dungeon pierced with arches and decorated with an inlaid pattern in volcanic stone. Numerous 14th and 15th century houses, which have retained their mullioned windows, their stairwells and astonishing fireplaces, crowd around this church, as does the Chapel of Our Lady of the Apple Trees, founded in the 8th century.
But it is near the Ardèche, which favored its breweries - now deserted - that Ruoms owes its fame. Its "parade" is 1.5km away, in the direction of Largentiere. The hand of man has carved in the limestone a ledge road embellished with tunnels adjoining large bays, overlooking the river
