40km from the campsite,
Lighthouse of the Ardèche, dominating by nearly 200 meters the valley of the Rhône, from the top of its basalt dyke, the last jolt of Coiron, Rochemaure, citadel of lava rising from the waters, offers passers-by its carcass of stones eaten away by the centuries . Of its keep, its immense castle, its crenellated enclosures having encompassed three successive villages, there is little left today but an enormous assemblage of ruin tumbling down the mountain.
Halfway up the slope, above the Guast tower, the Notre Dame des Anges chapel watches over its graves and, at the top, in the remains of the first village, the Saint-Laurent chapel keeps the secret of its "magic square" .
From the foot of the keep, citadel of vertigo, the panorama over the valley is impressive.
From the peak of Chenavari, 4.5 km from the Saint-Laurent chapel, view of the Rhône and the keep of Rochemaure with, in the background, the Vercors and the Baronnies closing the horizon to the east. South side, a few meters below, basaltic causeway with Giants cobblestone on which this volcanic neck is anchored from its 507 meters altitude.
In the plain, 2 km south of Rochemaure, hides, in the middle of its cypress trees, the Château de Joviac, a vast late-Renaissance residence, looking out over the Rhône over its enclosing wall flanked by two watchtowers
